Think You’re not Smart Enough to Start a Thriving Business? Think Again.

Not smart enough to start a business? Think again.

Everyone experiences self-doubt. Everyone starts from ground zero when it comes to knowledge and experience, so it’s natural to wonder if you’re on the right track or have got what it takes. In fact, entrepreneurs aren’t any smarter than any other cross-section of society. Successful people have a secret but it’s not intelligence; it’s perseverance.

Einstein epitomizes intelligence to many people. But he himself said,

“It’s not that I’m so smart; it’s just that I stay with problems longer.”

So if you’ve got a goal, a dream, an idea: see it through! You are smart enough, talented enough, and you will figured out how to get there. Don’t worry if you don’t have all the knowledge for the field you want to enter. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is any path worth pursuing. (If you aren’t sure what you want to do, I’ve got a post coming soon for you!)

  • If you love the idea of being a web developer, stop telling yourself you’re not good enough with computers and start your first course on HTML today
  • If you want to start a business in a field in which you have no experience, email someone established in that field and ask if you can give them a call. They’ll likely be happy to talk to you for a few minutes and point you in the right direction.
  • If you want to sell on Etsy, when you’ve chosen your product, start learning the ropes! There are countless YouTube videos, books, and blogs that can teach you to make just about anything!

Talk to people. Visit the library and read everything you can. Practice. And any time you start to doubt yourself, push those voices to the side and do it some more. You may not be the next Oprah tomorrow but stick to your path and you’ll be better than you were today. The best part is that you can learn anything for free and have nothing to lose!

You CAN do it! And I am cheering for you.

Good luck and stay ambitious!
